Islamophobia properly defined - by Merriam-Webster Islamophobia defined ... correctly

Islamophobia is the "irrational fear of Islam," for it is a linguistic blend of the words "Islam" and "phobia."

Islam
The word "Islam" refers to a major religion, which you can read more about by following this link.

-phobia
The suffix "phobia" is defined as an irrational fear of whatever it's attached to.  For example, the word "arachnophobia" is well-understood to mean the "irrational fear of arachnids (e.g., spiders, scorpions, etc.)."

Don't agree?  Tough luck for you!

Meriam-Webster's dictionary of the English language agrees with this proper definition, and specifies it prominently first as dictionaries generally do to list the most common understood meanings first.  And since the word Islamophobia has different meanings, we recommend using this one as it's most accurate and will stymie the efforts by manipulative fanatics who mean to vandalize the structural integrity of the English language for the long-term purpose of leveraging defective verbiage to unfairly vilify people.

Some people who have fallen rather far down the rabbit hole of the vague-and-corrupt ideology of Political Correctness have become misinformed about the meaning of the word Islamophobia, and illogically attribute some unrelated characteristics to it such as hatred (which is not synonymous with fear) and racism (Islam is not a race) instead of paying attention to the points being made by philosophers, critics, debaters, and other thinkers about the horrors and evils of Islam -- their failure to comprehend what others are communicating so as to discern whether the basic structure of the English language applies (it usually does) exemplifies their failure to understand, and the need for a proper basic education could be helpful, so please help them by recommending that they read this web site -- thank you.

Islamophobia is a word created by fascists and used by cowards to manipulate morons -- Christopher Hitchens

A few words about hatred and racism

Hatred is a negative emotion that can sometimes be justified (e.g., it's common for many people to feel a sense of hatred for terrorists because terrorists use violence to injure and/or kill people).  Hatred for a group of people just because they are theists (they believe in one or more deities), or because they are atheists (they don't believe in any deities), is discriminatory and is also often unethical.

Racism is an arbitrary form of bigotry and discrimination against people based on their skin colour/complexion.  Racism is unethical because it vilifies people based on physical character traits that they were born with and have no reasonable means of control over in a significant way even if they wanted to (Michael Jackson is famously known for having his skin colour changed, which proved to be an extremely difficult thing to achieve that was also dangerous for his health).  The human right to bodily autonomy also obviates any justification for forcing someone to surgically change the colour of their skin, so racists can just go bugger off and leave the living of life to rational people until they recover their non-racist sensibilities.
